EFIEES is proud to be a partner in the LIFE project OpenBEP4EU, an initiative aimed at advancing Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) across Europe.

OpenBEP4EU aims to make energy efficiency, environmental responsibility, and building energy performance assessments more accessible and easier to understand for the general public. It is also expected to improve the EPC reliability, accuracy and accessibility.

This project focuses on developing an open-source and universal software implementation of the ISO 52000 standards, known as the EU Kernel EPC Engine. By harmonising EPC calculations across all EU Member States, OpenBEP4EU facilitates a more coordinated and efficient approach to assessing building energy performance.

Pilot buildings

OpenBEP4EU’s framework will be extensively tested and then validated in five different areas in Greece, Denmark, Spain, Cyprus and Switzerland, covering different climatic zones, building typologies, and EPC schemes.

The project will establish a common platform and framework to exchange knowledge, experience and best practices on EPC development and application. It is also an opportunity to test and validate the open-source and universal EU Kernel EPC Engine in real-world scenarios.
